                     CONSULTATIONS

Do I need a lawyer?
If you are asking yourself this question, you probably need to at least consult a lawyer to get a better understanding of your case. The question, we believe, is one of the best questions you can ask yourself after a consultation with a lawyer.
At this law firm we begin the initial consultations by learning about the goal you seek to accomplish. Then our task is determining the way(s) in which your goal can be reached. Sometimes it takes more than a single consultation to find a way; occasionally we regretfully advise that nothing can or should be done.
We can explain the basics of the immigration process as it applies to your case, the issues or challenges involved in your particular situation to the extent we are able to discover them at the initial consultation, the processing times, the fees, and attempt to answer any additional questions you may have. At the conclusion of the consultation you decide how to proceed further and whether to proceed with legal representation.

I just have a simple question. Do I need a consultation?

Maybe. Your question may very well be simple, but there may be (and often are) other, not-so-simple questions or issues that only a qualified attorney may be able to spot and bring to your attention. U.S. immigration laws are more often complex than they are simple; more often technical, than commonsense and intuitive. "Can I, as a U.S. citizen, get my spouse a green card?", for example, is by no means a simple question, as there are a number of things to consider. One consideration is whether your spouse is "admissible" - a loaded legal term of art that requires knowing circumstances of entry to the U.S, prior entries and periods of stays in the U.S., any prior immigration history, any criminal history, etc.

What is the purpose of the consultation?
You are invited to ask questions, discuss different options that may be available to you and receive general recommendations on how to achieve your goals. You might learn that certain options are not available to you, in which case we may discuss the reasons for the ineligibility.
We are usually able to provide a precise quote (a flat fee) for our services at your first consultation with us.

Is there a fee for a consultation?
Yes. Effective June 7, 2010 Law Office of Arsen V. Baziyants no longer offers free consultations. There is now a $40 charge for a 30-minute consultation.
The $40 fee will not be credited for any legal services for which you retain this law firm. We believe your decision to retain our services should be free of any such incentives.

What do I need to bring to the consultation?
Almost impossible to tell precisely without a consultation before the actual consultation, so use your best judgment. Generally, you should bring all of your immigration related documents. Should we require additional documentation to answer your questions fully, we may ask you to return with the documents. In this event, there will be no charge for the second consultation.

Who will provide the consultation?
     Attorney Arsen V. Baziyants.
